Keep in mind that such roll outs could take up to four weeks or more to complete. Why do SEOs (or anyone who owns a website or web property) care about these updates? Because they mean that certain website(s) are going to experience a rapid decline in traffic.
Additionally, other websites could see an increase in traffic. Or, they could remain steady with little to no change. If your website experiences a decrease in traffic, there is likely an issue (or multiple issues) with your search engine optimization that you need to identify and address.
If you see an increase in traffic, this is likely due to your competitors getting zapped by Google. Which means that their ranking losses have become your ranking gains. But! In SEO, we never look a gift horse in the mouth, even if it’s due to a Google Algorithm Update.
If you experience ranking increases because of a Google update, that is the time to reverse engineer your competitors and see what they did wrong! Armed with that critical data, you need to craft an SEO plan that empowers you to maintain your newly found rankings.
